On a recent trip to Miami, FL. I had the opportunity to tour the OrthoNow Flagship franchise. I was not only blown away by the business model, but the staff and the founder himself Dr Alejandro Badia, all were huge proponents of smart medicine. Why do we call it smart medicine?
Let’s take for an example a friend playing a pick up soccer match. She sprains her foot badly in a game. Unable to walk on it, her friends drive her to the ER. The wait is extra ordinary on a busy weekend and since her injury is not life threatening, she waits a bit longer. Once she gets in and sees a doctor (ER trained) , they do a X ray and give an air cast for the ankle.

Every Physical Therapist reading this blog knows that this is how they (an ER patient) come to us after 2-3 weeks in pain and now they have complaints of knee and back pain.

So lets take a look at OrthoNow. Unlike the ER, this urgent care center is built only for orthopedic injuries, so the wait time is ZERO. You are seen by an orthopedic MD (or an orthopedically trained pA) who has the option for Xray, MRI (if necessary) and proper bracing and immediate referral to Physical Therapy. The difference is in the expertise.

SO AS A PRIVATE PRACTICE OWNER THIS IS A FRANCHISE I CAN GET BEHIND. IF YOU HAVE A PRIVATE PRACTICE FOR MORE THAN 5 YEARS AND ARE LOOKING TO EXPAND, NOT ONLY FINANCIALLY BUT AS A NEW LEAD GENERATION SYSTEM FOR YOUR PRACTICE – THEN THIS EPISODE IS JUST RIGHT FOR YOU.

If you are an orthopedic surgeon and looking for a way to start your own private practice, I have not seen an easier way. The possibilities are endless.
